Campsie Hub Engagement

Jun 24, 2025

Goal

In alignment with the Campsie Master Plan, City of Canterbury Bankstown (Council) is delivering a new community centre – the Campsie Hub. The Campsie Hub will be the new home of the Campsie Library and Knowledge Centre, Customer Service Centre and a meeting place for the Campsie community. The project will include a standalone Music Centre with recording and rehearsal spaces. Council commissioned JOC Consulting to conduct community and stakeholder engagement to inform the Concept Design and achieve community buy-in to support the evolution of the Master Plan.

Solution

JOC Consulting, alongside Studio Hollenstein, was commissioned by City of Canterbury Bankstown (Council) to develop the Campsie Hub Concept Design. JOC led the community engagement and Studio Hollenstein developed the design itself.

The consultation took place between January and March 2025. JOC Consulting designed an engagement program that was both accessible and participatory, ensuring a broad cross-section of the Campsie community could contribute to shaping the Hub.

Key engagement activities included:

  • Community survey
  • Drop-in sessions at Anzac Mall and the Campsie Library
  • Community workshops
  • Music Centre focus group

By combining targeted workshops with creative street-level engagement, JOC heard from diverse voices including residents, local workers, library users, and musicians – capturing the unique needs and aspirations of the area.

Outcome

The feedback on the Campsie Hub Concept Design was overwhelmingly positive. A total of 302 people participated across all engagement methods. The engagement process not only validated the Concept Design but also strengthened community confidence in the project. The insights gathered informed key design elements to create a Campsie Hub that feels part of the Campsie community.
