The Future Hornsby Project (Update)

Our biggest project for 2019 has involved spending a lot of time in Hornsby and we’ve loved it! Earlier in the year, JOC Consulting was engaged to undertake engagement and reporting for Hornsby Shire Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement.

With the vision set out by Hornsby Shire Council to be BOLD in gathering ideas and perspectives from the community about how future land use should be planned throughout the Hornsby Shire we delivered diverse and creative engagement experiences! To recap, these included:

Future Living Summit kicked off the engagement series with keynote speaker Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, and panellists Rukshan de Silva, Katherine O’Regan and Issy Phillips.  The Summit was an interactive event which sparked interesting discussion about future trends and impacts on planning and everyday life.  Over 200 community members attended.

Youth Future Forum saw 40 local young people meet under a tipi and participate in fun and thought-provoking activities about what challenges they are currently experiencing and what they hope for the future of Hornsby.  Their inspiring ideas lead to the development of the Statement from the Next Generation.

The Community Cruise Workshop enabled in-depth discussion with invited representatives from 40 local community groups.  JOC Consulting and Hornsby Shire Council set sail from Brooklyn and across the Hawkesbury River, and facilitated create workshop activities about the draft LSPS and sparked ideas about how Hornsby has changed over the last 20 years and where it should continue to grow.

These events are just a snapshot of the engagement series. To find out more get in touch with JOC Consulting and visit http://future.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/
