On the 3rd March, I’ll be joining Ryan Reynolds from Gap Filler and Marni Jackson from City of Sydney at the next Australian Institute of Architects Tuesdays@Tusculum panel…
“Major urban renewal projects challenge the fabric of our cities. They are the manifested negotiation between the often competing political and economic forces that drive development and the needs of communities. This February marks 4 years since the Christchurch earthquake; a natural disaster that has placed the city at the forefront of a global debate about urban renewal. While government authorities began the slow task of rebuilding, several community initiatives sprung up in response to a demand for urgent intervention to sustain city activity and vibrancy. The need for these responses bore out organizations such as Gap Filler and Life in Vacant Spaces who saw vacant sites activated by temporary creative projects and have become synonymous with a new DIY creative movement that sits – at times uneasily – alongside the massive government master plan.”
Save the date – Tuesday 3 March at Tusculum, 3 Manning Street, Potts Point – and find out more about the event here.
