JOC Consulting has partnered with McGregor Coxall as part of the team who was commissioned by City of Canterbury Bankstown to engage the local community on the Paul Keating Park Masterplan. The Paul Keating Park Precinct is the centrepiece of Bankstown’s civic area and so capturing the current uses and ideas for the future has been critically important in shaping the future design and planning of the area.
A variety of engagement tools and methods were used during round 1 to reach over 400 community members. A shipping container (provided by SAMA Design) was used to create a pop-up engagement space in a mobile shipping container. Using a creative space sparked interesting discussion with community members about how they use the Park and how they envision the Park can be maximized. It was also available throughout the day, with a growing ideas wall over time showing that people want to have their say and that while extensive engagement is being undertaken across CBCity, it can still be received well by the community.
A series of design principles reflecting the community’s views were established following the engagement. This was provided in the Paul Keating Park Master Plan Engagement Outcomes Report. We look forward to returning to Paul Keating Park in 2020, taking the draft designs to the public, for the second round of engagement.
