Towards a new busking policy for Sydney

The Council of the City of Sydney (The City) recognises the “life and colour buskers bring to the local area, from playing music, singing and dancing to all sorts of performances that entertain the public”.

In supporting the busking culture and ensuring the safety of both buskers and the public, the City has developed an Interim Busking Policy and for the past 18 months have been trailing pilot guidelines for Pitt Street Mall.

Council now wants to finalise a strategy for busking and has prepared a busking discussion paper to seek ideas and feedback prior to further development and consultation on the draft Policy and a possible Code of Conduct for buskers.

The public workshop, facilitated by JOC Consulting, shared and sought feedback on survey responses to the busking discussion paper that were collected as part of the formal online engagement. It also explored the development (and potential relevance) of a new busking code of conduct. A fascinating session, thanks to everyone who participated!
