GOAL
The World Bank Urban and Disaster Risk Management Unit are a geographically dispersed team who are committed to improving outcomes relating to urban resilience and disaster risk management.
The team convened in Sydney for a Resilience Study Tour to learn from some of Australia’s leading urban planning and resilience projects and strategize about initiatives that may be relevant to their respective regions.
SOLUTION
JOC Consulting coordinated and facilitated a dynamic day, of educational and creative tours and talks.
Following a presentation by the JOC team about the history of planning in Sydney – past, present an future we visited some of the city’s most significant urban renewal sites to see first hand how they have changed the fabric of our city.
Presentations included Deputy Mayor of the City of Sydney, Jess Scully speaking about the Green Square Precint and UNSW Landscape Architecture Lecturerer Catherine Evans discussing Sydney Park.
OUTCOME
Gaining first-hand experience of the City of Sydney’s innovative urban renewal projects and gaining deeper insights into urban planning projects that promote resilience sparked lively conversation and numerous questions from the group. Discussions were had, contacts were made, and invitations were extended allowing the delegates to embed learning into their own projects in developing countries across the Pacific region and South-east Asia.
